Cracked trial

A trial that doesn’t go ahead because the case ends on the day, usually because of a late guilty plea.

A cracked trial does not need a new date, because the case is resolved. That happens when the defendant offers an acceptable plea, or the prosecution offers no evidence.

Cracked trials still use court time and can mean witnesses attended for nothing.
